One of the hardest things for techies to do is stay ahead of the curve, or at least not too far behind it.

Operating systems change regularly; programming languages improve; software gets more complicated and chips more advanced.

With that in mind, the best thing you can do to retain your high-tech employees is offer them training to upgrade their skills. Those skills are worth a lot of money to them in the job market, and a lot of prestige in the high-tech world eager for knowledge and talent.
