H ere are a few books that Carol Pledger, managing director of Goldman Sachs University, and her team used as inspiration to develop the company’s leadership and management programs:

    • Emotional Intelligence, by Daniel Goleman.

    • The Leadership Pipeline: How to Build the Leadership Powered Company, by Ram Charan, Stephen Drotter and James Noel.

    • First Break All the Rules, by Marcus Buckingham.

    • Running Training Like a Business, by David Van Adelsberg and Edward A Trolley. Less well-known than the others, perhaps, but Pledger notes that this book is useful in helping people think in a businesslike way about how to operate training functions.
