Why check references?
- It can help you substantiate or nullify facts gathered in the interview. It can also bring new ones to light.
- It can help you place the proper interpretation on the information obtained, or lead to new understandings of the applicant.
- It can enable you to become more objective in your appraisal.
- If the applicant is hired, the information can help a supervisor or manager do a better job of motivating and directing the employee.
