Overtime Exemptions

People you may not have known were exempt.

You’re aware that certain employees who are on salary and perform managerial or professional tasks are exempt from overtime—but did you know that the following employees may be exempt from overtime requirements too?

Certain commissioned employees working in retail jobs.

Car, boat, truck, trailer or aircraft salesworkers, or parts-clerks and mechanics who service cars and trucks and who are employed by non-manufacturing establishments primarily engaged in selling these items to ultimate purchasers.

Employees of railroads and air carriers, cab drivers, and certain local delivery employees.

Announcers, news editors, and others at certain non-metropolitan broadcasting stations.

Domestic-service workers living in the employer’s residence.

Motion-picture theater employees.

Farm workers.
