Managing Mentally Ill Employees
- posted in the General Forum
A member writes: "I am a supervisor in a large government
agency. One of my direct reports has a mental illness that
impacts upon his performance and affects the workplace.
He has refused to ask for accommodations although it is
common knowledge that he is under psychiatric care and takes
medications. As his supervisor, what can I do? I feel as
if my hands are tied as I try to supervise his work. He
has been with the agency for 10 years and has been passed
around from one department to another. He can be a competent
worker, but on those days that he is 'off' he is quite a
handful. Help!"
