Over-compensation?
The compensation of top execs
increased an average of nearly 29 percent during 2006, according to the
Economic Research Institute and CareerJournal.com. Much of the pay increase
came in the form of lump-sum cash bonuses, which increased in size by an
average of 42 percent. Executives' base pay increased about 1.7 percent.
Lawmakers are already considering regulating executive pay via caps on deferred
compensation and requiring shareholders to approve an executive's year-end
