Forget Dave Ulrich: HR Doesn't Drive Organizational Change

Let's face it: By their very nature, the fundamental HR processes are aimed at safeguarding stability. But when you ask HR managers about the core competencies of their departments, they will tell you that the management of organizational change is at the forefront.

Discussion
  Bringing Children to Work

Posted in the HR General Forum:
A reader writes: "Does anyone have suggestions on how to handle a situation where employees bring their children to work because they cannot get a baby sitter? We do not have a day-care facility, nor do we wish to establish one. Employees will put their youngsters in the lunchroom and periodically check on them, thus taking time away from their jobs. We do not object to having a child dropped off after school and getting picked up within a half-hour. We do, however, object to having the children there for several hours when the employee is supposed to be working. What suggestions do you have to nip this in the bud before it becomes a common practice?"

Over-compensation?
Regulating Executive Pay

The compensation of top execs increased an average of nearly 29 percent during 2006, according to the Economic Research Institute and CareerJournal.com. Much of the pay increase came in the form of lump-sum cash bonuses, which increased in size by an average of 42 percent. Executives' base pay increased about 1.7 percent. Lawmakers are already considering regulating executive pay via caps on deferred compensation and requiring shareholders to approve an executive's year-end bonus.

Should the government place limits on executive pay at public companies?
 ● Yes.
 ● No.
 ● I don't know.
