Nothing is “free.” An EAP program bundled with a firm’s health insurance plan is actually a loss leader offered by an insurance company who pays an outside EAP provider such as IBH, Magellan, Beacon, to provide the EAP services. The insurer MUST be paying these large EAP providers. Does anyone know how much insurers pay to have an outside vendor manage their “free” EAP services?
